PREGNANCY IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TIMES FOR A WOMAN TO RECEIVE CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Pregnancy is a magical time in a woman’s life, but it does not promise to be comfortable. It’s like training for a new sport - you loaded up on prenatal vitamins, keep a daily routine of birthing stretches and exercises & watch in awe as your body responds to this new activity in preparation for the ultimate race called childbirth.

Both of our doctors are passionate about supporting expecting mothers throughout their pregnancy journey with the validation, care, attention, and nurturing warranted during this stage of their lives.

From the moment of conception, a woman’s body goes through a series of dramatic changes that can cause unwanted pain and discomfort especially in the back, pelvic, tailbone, and hips as well as postural changes. Even more, expecting mothers face the challenge of how to continue doing the things they love while their bodies are growing and changing daily.

Our doctors have specialty training to help expecting mother's pelvic alignment and nerve system function. The benefit of these approaches is that they reduce strain on the body and prepare the lower back, pelvic muscles & ligaments and uterus for birth.

In addition to physical adjustments, the doctors support prenatal and postpartum women in reassessing their exercise routines, recreational activities, sports, and other physical activities in ways that respect their changing bodies and safely allow them to maintain a level of normalcy in their physical well being.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is a safe and drug-free way to relieve pain while maintaining the health of you and your baby. We can hold you while you hold everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I go to the chiropractor if I am pregnant?

Most pregnant women are referred for lower back or pelvic pain associated with pregnancy. This includes localized lower back pain, sciatica (radiating leg pain), groin pain, and leg or thigh pain. Some patients present with middle back pain, rib pain, neck pain or headaches.

Benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy could include:

  • Relief from back, neck or joint pain

  • Controlling symptoms of nausea

  • Reduction in time of labor and delivery

  • Prevention of a potential cesarean delivery

Is Chiropractic treatment safe during pregnancy?

Yes! Gentle chiropractic treatment including joint mobilization, soft tissue treatment, and therapeutic exercise is safe and effective during pregnancy. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to address the challenges of the pregnant body including loosening ligaments and increased weight.

How often will I need treatment during my pregnancy?

A treatment plan will be individually tailored for your specific condition and depends on your week of pregnancy. Treatment recommendations range usually start at 1-2x/month and may increase as the due date approaches.

What else can I do at home between my office visits to help my pain?

In addition to drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy diet, home care recommendations usually include ice, physio-ball exercises, and gentle stretching. A maternity belt support may be recommended as well. Exercises are tailored specifically for each patient.

Can chiropractic treatment really reduce my time in labor?

A research study showed that patients under chiropractic care during pregnancy had decreased labor times by 24-39%!

Is my treatment over after my baby is born?

Prior to returning to routine personal care, at least one postpartum evaluation is recommended before the ligaments around the pelvis tighten. Usually this occurs about the same time as your postpartum visit to your birth provider at 2-4 weeks.

Testimonials

Amy helped me with postpartum recovery, primarily low back pain. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her field. Any pregnant or recently pregnant woman would benefit from her skills.
— MEGAN P
Having regular chiropractic care from Amy during my recent pregnancy made a positive difference in my pain level, mobility, and delivery (compared to my first pregnancy, which I did not receive any chiropractic care).

She made me feel safe and comfortable to receive adjustments while pregnant and was great at explaining everything to me in a way that was easy to understand.

She truly understands the changes that happen to the body during and after pregnancy and tailors treatments based on that knowledge as well as my feedback and goals. Her care goes above and beyond all expectations and I would not hesitate to recommend her for pre and post natal care.

I have been seeing Amy since a slightly traumatic postpartum experience almost two years ago, and she has always treated me with respect, compassion, and obvious skill and expertise. She mixes newer treatment methods with traditional adjustments and gets great results.

She also personalized my treatment plan after careful and ongoing analysis. She explains the mechanics of my body and how my emotional health affects those in ways that are easy to understand, and offers simple, practical help.

I look forward to seeing her not only for the great work she does, but because she has a peaceful presence and obviously cares about people.

I recommend her to everyone!
